The National Alliance for Public Universities (NAPU) formed in 2014 as a response to the unprecedented attack being made on public universities by the then Abbott Government. Since then we have continued to campaign as a succession of Coalition governments have continued to underfund universities and undermine their public character.
We seek to give voice to the researchers, teachers, administrators and other staff who oppose the privatisation and marketisation of our public universities and whose perspectives are continually overlooked in a national discussion that is skewed towards the vested interests of politicians and university senior managers.
We have set out A Charter for Australia’s Public Universities, which articulates an alternative vision of the role and purpose of public universities.
